KVA PACK Youth Club Programs Overview

(Content subject to change)

Each season the KVA Board will determine what age groups and how many teams associated with each age based on what is available for committed athletes, coaches, and gym time and what is allowable by VBC (see Playtime Policy for more information).  Older Age groups will get first priority on available HP Coaches.

  • Commitment Fee: after being offered and accepting a position on  the team a commitment fee will be due to confirm the position.  Failure to pay by the deadline can result in the spot being offered to another athlete.

  • Team Club Fee: vary per team and are also dictated by final team roster size. Delays in Commitment Fee payments result in a shorter time period for Team Club Fee payment.

  • Tournament Registration Fee: vary per team and are also dictated by final team roster size.

  • Coach fees are due 1 week prior to each tournament unless arranged with coach otherwise. Failure to pay coaches can result in not being able to play at the tournament.

  • Programs run from first or second week of January through early May (depending on when Provincials and/or Nationals are scheduled in each age group).

  • Practices (Frequency subject to change based on gym availability)

    • HP: 3x week

    • DV: 2x week

  • Tournaments

    • HP: varies by age group

    • DV: varies by age group

  • Commitment Level
    • DV: Volleyball is not expected to be primary sport but some tournaments (provincials) are mandatory and athletes are expected to attend at least 1 practice/week.

    • HP: Volleyball is expected to be the primary sport,  practices and tournaments are mandatory

  • All athletes are expected to attend the open tryouts.
  • Once the HP team selections are finalized, then the DV team selections will be finalized.

  • All official offers are made by email from Admin. Athletes may be offered a position verbally, but until the official offer is made and commitment fee paid, it is not finalized.

  • Developmental (DV) Team Program

    • The Developmental Team Programs are focused on developing a sound foundation for athletes who enjoy the sport of volleyball and would like to participate outside of the school season.  Athletes who have not yet reached their athletic potential “aka late bloomers” will often jump from the DV program one year into the HP another. The long term goal of the Developmental program is to develop athletes in the long term who will continue to play in Adult Leagues under the Sport For Life model.  The DV Program is about Development, Participation and Enjoyment of the sport.

    • Athletes who choose another sport as their primary (i.e. soccer, basketball, Dance etc...) or who are unsure if they wish to pursue volleyball at an High-Performance level  may find the commitment expectations of the DV Program more suitable.

  • KVA PACK High Performance (HP) Team Program

    • The High Performance Team program is focused on developing high-end competitive athletes.  It is primarily intended for athletes who have chosen volleyball to be their primary sport and wish to compete in the sport at a High Performance level, tryout for TeamBC Programs and potentially play at the Post-Secondary level

    • The focus of the HP Teams is Long Term Development of High Performance Athletes through hard work, effort, passion and dedication.

    • There may be “practice players”/red shirts allowed to participate with the teams in practices at each coach’s discretion (please see Red Shirt Policy for more information)

High Performance Program Expectations

  • Volleyball is the #1 priority in season. Season runs from Jan through May

    • KVA Supports the multi-sport athlete.  Each coach will do their best to support multi-sport athletes and will try to work this out with each athlete.  It is expected that your other sport/activity provides the same consideration. For example: You miss 1 volleyball practice this week for (soccer/basketball/dance/piano etc…) you miss that other event to attend volleyball instead the next weekend etc…

    • However, each athlete and their parent(s) must be honest about how much the athlete can do, keeping in mind proper rest, recovery and their educational/social needs.

    • General rule of thumb:  If you can’t make at least 75% of practices and the mandatory tournaments over the season, the HP program might not be for you.

KVA has the right to remove a player from any team for any reason KVA deems to be detrimental to the club, team, players, coaches and/or officials (please see Code of Conduct Policy for more information)
